With winter settling in and school holidays approaching, our clinic has been buzzing with activity. We hope this term has been full of progress for you and your family.
In this month’s newsletter, we’re exploring the importance of inferencing skills and why students need them now more than ever in our fast-paced world. Check out our latest blog post for insights into how inferencing supports comprehension, problem-solving, and social understanding.
Our ‘Resource of the Month’ is the “1, 2, 3 Guess” game – a fun and flexible tool to help children develop their descriptive language, thinking skills, and turn-taking. It’s a favourite in sessions and easy to use at home, too!
And finally, we’ll be shining the spotlight on Lyndal, from our friendly Admin team!
We hope you enjoy these insights.

Inferencing Skills
Inferencing skills are more important than ever. These skills, the ability to “read between the lines” and draw logical conclusions from available information. Whether your students are analyzing texts , interpreting information, or navigating everyday decisions, strong inferencing skills gives them confidence not only in the classroom but in their everyday interactions.
Why Inferencing Skills Are Important
- Better Comprehension: Readers who make inferences understand texts on a deeper level. They connect ideas, recognize tone and intent, and grasp meaning that isn’t directly stated.
- Critical Thinking: Inference is at the heart of critical thinking. It requires you to evaluate evidence, question assumptions, and draw reasoned conclusions.
- Stronger Communication: Being able to infer helps in understanding others’ perspectives, sarcasm, or implied meanings-essential for effective interpersonal communication.
- Problem Solving: In real life, information is rarely complete. Making inferences allows you to fill in gaps, predict outcomes, and make sound decisions based on limited data.

Resource of the Month: 1, 2, 3 Guess!
Looking for a fun way to support your child’s communication development at home? 1, 2, 3 Guess! by Zanzoon Tomy is a favourite in our therapy sessions and here’s why it works so well.
Builds Vocabulary – Children practise using and understanding new words through description and guessing.
Improves Descriptive Language – Encourages talking about what things look like, what they do, and where you find them.
Strengthens Listening Skills – Helps children focus, listen carefully, and retain important details.
Encourages Turn-Taking and Social Interaction – A great activity to enjoy with siblings or family members.
This fast-paced game turns speech practice into meaningful, playful learning. If your child has mentioned it from sessions, consider trying it at home!
