What is involved in helping me with my accent?

eastsideAccent Modification, FAQs

It is important to first establish what sounds are challenging for you and have the greatest impact on how well you are understood. A comprehensive assessment of your speech is necessary so goals and priorities can be set. An assessment of your speech sounds, your speaking rate, and how you emphasise words is important.

After this is done it will be clear which sounds or other factors will make the biggest difference in improving your speech.

Our speech therapy at Eastside Speech is individualised, and is done by Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists. We work this way because everyone’s accents are really different and therapy needs to be tailored to individual needs. Speech Pathologists are skilled at teaching new sounds- it’s what we do ☺

It is important to attend therapy each week so you make good progress and gain momentum. We recommend attending for 6-8 weeks in order to see changes in your speech.

Learning new sounds is about learning new speech movements- it takes time, but it’s worth it.
